With this distribution of TheNet Plus version 2.10 are two self extracting
files. These are Network.exe and TN210.exe. Network.exe contains related
support and information for node network operation. TN210.exe has the ROM
images, docs and SET210 utility.
Since they are self extracting all one has to do is type either "network" or
"TN210" and they will unfold automatically into a series of related files.
It is recommended these be upacked into a directory on a hard drive. For
those with a dual 360K drive capacity, each of the .exe files can be upacked
onto a *separate* formated disk. From drive A, the command would be either
"TN210 B:", or "NETWORK B:", as appropriate.
In this day and age, it's probably a good idea to run a virus scan on both
files since there is always the possibility a malcontent may have tampered
with the distribution. Those receiving this program directly from either
of the authors, or an established LL BBS should have little worry in this
regard.
We understand TheNet Plus version 2.09 is on many LL BBSes. This version
WAS NOT released for general distribution. 2.09 was a developmental version
and at one time or other contained various features. Some of which worked
and some which did not. Two different variations were released to DXPacket
Cluster types for beta testing of certain features. Apparently it is from
one of these sources the "leak" occured. As far as we know these versions
performed OK, but the new version 2.10 has upgraded features and "better
code".
To summarize briefly, version 2.10 has several new features over those found
in version 2.08:
1. Automatic reconnect. If one is "BYED" out of a distant connect, the
circuit will automatically be reconnected at the first 2.09 or 2.10
back from the "BYED" point.
2. Improved SYSOP parameter setting feature.
3. Transport layer parameters are now remote SYSOP settable.
4. A specialized version 2.10dx for DXCluster support.
5. A specialized version 2.10tm (telemetry) is available upon request.
6. USERS display has been revised to show level 3 thrulink source and
destination nodes. (Helps users and NodeOps alike to keep tabs on
system activity.)
7. Node TXD interval sends alternating 1's and 0's instead of flags.
This enhances throughput as it allows quicker receiver response.
8. A completely revised and expanded documentation and support package.
The Network.exe support package includes a nice VHF/UHF/microwave
radio path analysis program as well as network design info.
Be advised the node DIGI function had to be removed from version 2.10 in order
to make room for the new features. This occured with the version 2.09
developmental nodeware as well. If one needs the digi function for their
particular application, best to stay with version 2.08.
73 and happy networking!
